Choosing the right limo service in Portland can feel overwhelming when dozens of companies compete for your booking. Whether you need airport transportation, a wedding limo, a wine tour, or a party bus for a special night out, this guide covers everything you need to know to make the right choice and avoid common mistakes.
1. Verify Licensing and Insurance First
The single most important factor when choosing a Portland limo company is whether they are properly licensed and insured. In Oregon, transportation companies must hold a valid USDOT number, Oregon DOT operating authority, and Portland city permits for ground transportation. Ask any company you consider for their USDOT number and verify it at the FMCSA Safety website. Royalty Trips is fully USDOT compliant, Portland-permitted, and PDX Airport-approved.
2. Inspect the Actual Fleet
Never book based on website photos alone. Ask the company to send you current photos of the specific vehicle you will be riding in, not stock images or outdated photos. A reputable company maintains a clean, modern fleet with working amenities. At Royalty Trips, every vehicle in our fleet is regularly inspected, professionally detailed, and equipped with functioning entertainment systems, LED lighting, and climate control.
3. Check Reviews on Multiple Platforms
Look beyond Google reviews. Check Yelp, The Knot, WeddingWire, and Facebook for a full picture. Pay attention to how the company responds to both positive and negative reviews. A company that takes pride in its service will respond to every review professionally and promptly. Royalty Trips consistently maintains five-star ratings across all platforms.
4. Understand Pricing and What Is Included
Get a detailed written quote that specifies the vehicle, hours, gratuity, fuel surcharge, and any additional fees before booking. Beware of companies that quote very low hourly rates but add hidden charges at the end. Ask specifically about weekend minimums, overtime rates, and cancellation policies. A transparent company will give you a clear all-in price upfront.
5. Ask About Chauffeur Qualifications
Your driver is the most important part of your experience. Ask whether the company conducts background checks on all drivers, whether chauffeurs are professionally trained, and whether they carry commercial driving licenses. Royalty Trips chauffeurs are background-checked, professionally trained, and experienced in local Portland routes, traffic patterns, and venue logistics.
6. Confirm Availability and Book Early
Portland limo and party bus availability fills up fast, especially during prom season (May to June), summer wedding season (June to September), and major events like the Portland Rose Festival. Book at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance for most occasions, and 4 to 6 weeks for weddings and peak-season weekends. Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible but limit your vehicle choices.
7. Choose a Company with Local Knowledge
A company based in the Portland area understands local traffic, road closures, venue locations, PDX airport procedures, and event schedules better than a national aggregator passing your booking to a third party. Royalty Trips is based in Hillsboro and has served the Portland metro area since 2018, giving us deep knowledge of every neighborhood, venue, and route in the region.
